This page contains photographs from some of our past gigs. Dave & Kenny and Friends are available for events in the greater Houston area. As we're mostly retired, our rates are very reasonable. See the "About" page for information about our Friends who have worked with us on past gigs. We've played Grape Stomps, neighborhood parties, corporate events, cruise-ins, and other celebrations and events since the band started in 2016.
Thanks again to Lance Kingrey for providing our two Grape Stomp Posters, our logo, and website inspiration! Lance did the poster to the right and the one on the "About Us" page. Shown in the poster are Kenny Pelletier, Debbie Charlesworth, Dave Charlesworth, Larry Kingrey, and Pat McIntosh. Matt Palmer was in the original photo, but by the time the 2017 Grape Stomp came about, he had already moved to Idaho!
Here's what we looked like playing one of the Grape Stomp gigs.
Shown are Dave Charlesworth, Kenny Pelletier, Pat McIntosh, Larry Kingrey, and Matt Palmer.
On this particular day, a very windy and violent thunderstorm hit just as we were picking up our equipment. You never saw a bunch of old guys move so fast as we rushed to get our equipment safe under the Winery ceiling!
As mentioned above, here's the original photograph that Lance started his posters with. Amazing what he can do with Photoshop! This was taken after one of our first gigs, October 1, 2016, at Clear Creek Winery's Grape Stomp.
Shown are Matt Palmer, Kenny Pelletier, Debbie Charlesworth, Dave Charlesworth, Larry Kingrey, and Pat McIntosh. You can see the walls of the Clear Creek Winery in the background. By the time we had packed up all of the equipment, it was getting dark!
Here is a similar pic but a couple of years later.
Shown are Dave Charlesworth, Debbie Charlesworth, Larry Kingrey, Joe Painter, Kenny Pelletier, Linda McIntosh, Pat McIntosh. Again, you can see the walls of the Clear Creek Winery in the background. Not quite as dark this time.
For bands like ours, the difficult part is not singing and playing the songs – it is loading up the equipment, unloading it, setting up and then after the gig, tearing down the equipment, packing it up, and then unloading it at home. By the time these pictures were taken, we were tired!
One of our first post-COVID gigs was playing a benefit at Scotty's, Booth, Texas.
Shown are Barry Martin (Brian's Dad), Dave Charlesworth, Brian Martin, Kenny Pelletier, and Joe Painter.
Barry lives in El Paso and was visiting his son Brian's family, so we invited him to play bass with us. Barry operates a music store and repair shop and can play just about any instrument ever made. He played with us again on the next day, Sunday, at Cornerstone Community Bible Church.
This was a fun gig – it was a benefit and the people who came really appreciated our music. And, Scotty's is a really good venue. The COVID shut-downs were really difficult for everybody in the live entertainment business, including us.
Here's a picture Katie Charlesworth took of us at one of Cornerstone Community Bible Church's Fall Harvest Festival. I think Gay Taylor set up the background for the picture (but I could be wrong about that!).
Front row Kenny Pelletier and Joe Painter. Back row Dave Charlesworth, Debbie Charlesworth, and Vincent Ng.
After COVID, we tried to revive Saturday evening cruise-ins at Otto's BBQ in Stafford. We had a great night with the T-Bird Club.
Somehow, though, this particular Otto's didn't make it through the post-COVID restaurant recovery, so that ended. We did have a couple of really nice evenings with the cruisers, though.
Here's a photo of the Band set up in front of Otto's BBQ for the Cruise-in.
From left to right, Dave, Mark Riddell, Vincent Ng, Kenny, and Joe.
This year we played for a celebration at Fluor in Sugar Land. We were outside under a tent and the weather was threatening, so we had to compress our set up for this gig. Brian Martin played drums for us. And this is the first group picture with Phil Snyder playing.
Extras! (In Random Order...)
* Here's an early DKFBand video: This features Matt Palmer playing the lead guitar on Sultans. Fortunately for us, Joe was able to learn this lead as well, so we can keep this one in our set list.
* Here's a blast from Dave's past: In 1979, Dave played keys with Cecil Parker (vocals) and Rich Pitts (drums) in a band called "Nightwork." Here's an mp3 made from a reel-to-reel live recording. Best drum lick ever is at 2:10. For a trio, we had a big sound!
* Here's a fun link: I mentioned playing with Southern Reverb and Mark Riddell – Here's Copperhead Road at a CanCare benefit. When I first heard this song, I thought, "What gives? Two chords?" But every time we played that song, people couldn't stay still; they started to move about and dance. Was always fun, plus SR played it really well.
* Here is another fun link: Our son Michael played the quads on the Florida Gator drumline for three years. He's a very short video of his section dancing as the rest of the Gator Band played...
* Here is another fun link: Wayne Watson played at our Cornerstone Christmas Eve service one year. I was playing the Nord and Larry Kingrey was playing the drums. We hadn't had any time to rehearse, so this was right out of the gate.
* This is an oldie! When I was in college, I went home (Western NY) to work driving truck two summers. Summer of 1972, I was in a great band with Tom Fitzpatrick (bass), Bill Lowry (guitar), Al Fox (vocals), and a drummer named Darrell. I was playing a Hammond spinet L112 with a Leslie speaker. We recorded one night on a reel-to-reel, and this song sounded the best of our recordings.
Check back here periodically, as we'll add new photos and other good things!
